Halland

Halland is an idyllic haven on Sweden’s west coast, nestled between Gothenburg and Helsingborg and boasts a rich food culture, stunning scenery and is popular with cyclists, surfers and given that it’s known as the “golf capital of Sweden” – golfers love Halland too!

With its stunning natural landscape of lush forests, sandy beaches and waterfalls a travel to Halland is where memorvies are made. For those who love outdoor activity you’ll have no shortage of options in Halland.

Halmstad is the biggest town in Halland and is an ideal location to explore the rest of the region. Its cycling trails are a big attraction for those wishing to explore the beautiful countryside. Halmstad is the starting point of Kattegattleden – Sweden’s very first national cycling trail which was once awarded European Cycling Route of the Year by the Cycling & Hiking Fair. This unique cycling route extends across 390 km and passes through picturesque fishing villages, stunning fields and the breathtaking scenery of Halland and beyond. Prince Bertil’s Trail is an easy 18 km hike with seaside views as well as stretches of green forest. Don’t miss a visit to explore Halmstad Castle which is the starting point for Prince Bertil’s Trail. Danska Fall is a beautiful waterfall in an unspoilt nature reserve where you can enjoy a leisurely walk through the scenic beech forest, it’s not to be missed. Also close to Halmstad is Haverdals Nature Reserve, another beech tree forest with many hiking trails to explore. You’ll also find the Lynga sand dune or Stora Sandkullen – the dune extends an incredible 36 metres above sea level and is probably the highest in Scandinavia. The views of the sea and the forest are simply magnificent.

Halmstad is known for its great beaches with Tylösand and Östra stranden being two of the most popular. The town has great nightlife, with many bars and restaurants for you to experience. Don’t forget to take a look at Pablo Picasso’s 15 metre sculpture “Head of a Woman” as you make your way along the pedestrian paths by the Nissan River and also take the opportunity to enjoy Carl Mille’s sculpture, Europa and the Bull too. If you like outdoor markets take a trip to Stora torg where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, plants and lots more too.
